Muhammadiyah has initiated a program aimed at promoting harmony by encouraging followers of various religions to work together in preserving the environment. This program, known as Eco Bhinneka, has been running since 2021 in Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Ternate (North Maluku), Surakarta (Central Java), and Banyuwangi (East Java).
Now, Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah has been selected as a partner for the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ford Foundation, to implement the program “Strengthening Youth Multifaith Leadership Initiative on Climate Justice through Ecofeminism” (SMILE) in 2025.
This program encourages the involvement of young people from various religions, especially women, youth, and people with disabilities, to build awareness and knowledge to prevent the climate crisis.
Focal Point – ‘SMILE’ Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah is expected to:
- Explain the importance of youth involvement from various faiths in climate justice and gender equality issues.
- Maintain, nurture, and communicate to strengthen the interfaith youth network in their region.
- Build a movement for interfaith youth in climate justice through ecofeminism, through activities that raise awareness, eco-sociopreneurship, and eco-literacy.
- Report on the achievements of the SMILE program.
Candidates we are looking for:
- Actively involved in organizational, student, or community activities.
- Committed to climate justice and gender equality.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Committed to teamwork.
- Demonstrates leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Has participated in activities or training on climate justice and gender equality.
Applicants must be residing in one of the following areas:
- Bali
- Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY)
- West Java
- Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta)
- North Sumatra
- South Sulawesi
